You will need

  • A medium-sized cardboard box.
  • Pieces of scrap paper, rolled into balls.

What to do

Place the box a few feet away from your child, and encourage them to throw the balls into the box. As they slowly develop, vary the activity by increasing the distance of the box from your child.

For older children, why not hold the box yourself, and keep moving it - then see if your child can throw the balls in successfully. They can then take the opportunity to hold the box and catch the balls themselves.

Vocabulary

Throw, catch, longer, shorter, further.

Learning outcomes

  • Developing gross motor skills by practising the throwing action.
  • Improving social skills by playing together with an adult.
