Curriculum

At Avendale, our curriculum draws on the principles of Reggio Emilia Approach, infused with the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework EYFS, from the UK and the Hong Kong Guide to Pre-primary Curriculum. We have used these documents to support and localize a curriculum that prepares students for the future. We recognize that our school operates in a unique context in Hong Kong and that our educational programs should recognize and respect this uniqueness.

By combining the cultural influences from an international perspective and those of our host country, we are able to provide our children with rich, deep and diverse cultural experiences. We believe that academics are vital, but alone are insufficient for preparing future leaders. Therefore, we instil moral strength and character to empower children in becoming productive and upright members of their community.

 

Children enrolled in either our Pre-Nursery or Kindergarten programme are immersed in a bilingual environment with both a native English and Mandarin teacher. Our classes have a ratio of one teacher to ten students. By actively observing the children, our teachers can respond to each individual child’s needs. Understanding each child’s unique developmental stage and interests supports our teachers to thoughtfully plan the learning environment to guide children in their learning journey and extend their knowledge and understanding.
